There are two towering giants in the History of Art, Leonardo Da Vince and Vincent Van Gogh. I would like to draw a comparison between these two artists so as to better understand their work.
Leonardo is a figure of the Renaissance whereas Van Gogh is from the late 19th Century. However, these two great men have much to offer us today in ways that are very similar to each other. First and foremost both men are very linear in their approach to art.
Leonardo always had his sketchbook with him so as to grab images quickly while he was about. These sketches form the basis for the undertaking of all of his great works. One only has to look at he Adoration of the Magi or his Cartoon of the Virgin and St. Anne to immediately grasp his understanding and use of line. Leonardo’s grasp of line was for far more than a drafting skill to set-up a painting, rather his drawings are expression of his core feelings and thoughts about his subjects and he conveys about this in his writings.

One day I was sniffing about in the Accademia in Venice, with a silly smile on my face, having taken my fill of some truly magnificent Venetian masterpieces which included ‘St. John the Baptist’ by Titian, the truly remarkable ‘Transport of the Body of St. Mark’ by Tintoretto and sighing over the Bellini’s and Tiepolo’s! Having thought enough was enough, I began making my way towards the exit when I decided to stick my nose into what is the oldest part of the museum, the former Church of Santa Maria della Carita’, because I love the gothic atmosphere, inside part of what was the first of the great schools of Venice, the Scuola della Carita’, founded in 1260. This is room 23 of the Accademia today and obviously was the church of the old school and well worth a look when you are next here. I moved towards the end of what must have been the altar area and there it was? Temporarily displayed here as it turned out, awaiting its return home to the cathedral in the little town of Castelfranco Veneto, some 40 ks inland from Venice, I was lucky enough to see it in this lovely space.

It’s a secret ambition of many people to learn to paint but most people never follow through this dream because they believe it is too difficult, that painting requires some secret skill that only a few people possess. This is rubbish. Anyone can learn to paint. Painting is just a skill that can easily be mastered with patience and practice.
The perfect way to learn to paint is to get instruction from a master. This was the way that the old masters learned. They did long apprenticeships with known experts. Today this isn’t possible for most of us. The good news is there’s plenty of other ways to learn to paint.

When you give someone a gift you are in for some exposure. Usually knowing if the receiver liked the gift takes some time. It might be more agonizing if it were the President you were giving the gift to. A visitor’s log had to be signed beforehand and then she could proceed to hand her present. The package was of Little Man the president’s horse and the guard was then the one in charge of finally delivering it to him.
A native from Old National Pike where she lives with her son and husbands this artist is an animal painter. With her interest in portraiture and love for animal she now has made this into her very own business. That love of animals has successfully turned into a money making business after her son was born and is thriving pretty well.
