You Can Learn Blues Guitar

The rhythm of the blues has gotten into your blood. You have been captured by this music that came from the African-American communities in the Deep South, the rich legacy born out of the hardships of slaves and prisoners. They made music from field hollers, chants, shouts, and work songs which grew into the unique form of American music known as the Blues.

There is one legend that a cornet player and bandleader named William Christopher Hardy wrote the first blues song, which was both documented and printed in the year 1912. The song was called “Yellow Dog Blues.” Over the years blues music has become more and more popular all around the world. It appeals to all ages, and many music lovers want to try to learn blues guitar.

How to Record Good Vocals

When recording vocals I have noticed many times that people are surprised at how they sound when they hear themselves played back over the monitors. This is because what we hear in our heads is not what a microphone will hear (pick up). People often think their voice is a tad bassier than it really is due to the proximity effect of their own voice. Proximity effect occurs when a sound source is very close to a mic mic thereby increasing the sources bass greatly. Think radio voices.

There are really only 3 things to consider when recording vocals: The volume, the tone and gain structure.

Regarding volume we are dealing with two things:

1. Is the person very soft? If so you will have to turn the mic up to compensate for this. And likely EQ for intelligibility of the words. This often means using EQ and cutting frequencies lower than 80hz and maybe a dip in the middle range around 300hz and maybe adding a little peak EQ between 3 to 7kHz.

When to Start Piano Lessons?

One of the most common questions piano teachers get asked is when to start piano lessons.

There’s not a black-and-white answer. If you are a parent, here are some things to consider as you explore piano lessons for your child.

When to start piano lessons: the piano method matters!
If the teacher you are considering teaches traditional or classical piano method, your child will be learning to play as he or she learns to read music. It all happens together.

I find that with traditional methods, I had more success (and kids had more fun!) when I began at age 5 or above. One of the primary reasons is that by age 5, children have a solid knowledge of numbers and letters, which is necessary for learning notes, rhythms, and counting.
