Expressing Spirituality Through Folk Art

Finding a creative outlet for the passion of the people that are indigenous to Nova Scotia, local artist and painter Alan Syliboy has discovered the joy that comes through following his heart. Starting out as a struggling painter who was having difficulty making his subjects appear on the canvas, Alan Syliboy has studied the culture and history of the native Mikmaq tribes that once roamed the open lands of Nova Scotia. Following his inner spiritual purpose for picking up the paint brush this artist found his true calling and has since been very successful in creating masterful works of art that are based on the techniques and style of the indigenous Mikmaq people.

Gaining a deep appreciation of the spiritual connection that exists between the earth, nature and mankind, Alan Syliboy incorporates the beliefs and practices of the balance of the physical and spiritual realms in each of the paintings that he is producing. Being drawn to the native culture of the Mikmaq tribe and find that through his own spiritual quest for understanding he has made a deep connection to the once thriving nation of the Mikmaq people, Alan Syliboy honors the heritage of the first settlers of Nova Scotia through his artwork. Being displayed in galleries and homes across Canada this artist is proving that beauty and culture can be found in the simple pleasure of the paint brush. Putting his passion for painting into the formation of each piece of artwork that he creates AlanSyliboy is keeping the traditions of the Mikmaq tribe alive as he proudly embraces the spiritual side of the teachings of their indigenous tribe of people that are still living throughout Nova Scotia.
